BattleShip Poker

At the EPT Grand Final in Monaco this year, for the second time BattleShip Poker was played.
The first time this special event in poker was played was in Bahamas in January.
BattleShip Poker is played heads up online at PokerStars, and players from all over the world can
watch the game as it takes place. The tournament is played in CUP style, which means, that if you lose, you're out, and the winner gets to play the next round where other winning players awaits to Battle. This form might be a success soon, only the future will tell, and I hope other pokersites will try and run this form of poker tournament.

Expekt Poker Academy Review Poker Trainer

Poker Academy as your Poker Trainer, Coach!

I bought Expekt Poker Academy Limit No Limit tournament the other day. I had used it
before, while it was under the name Poki Academy or something like that. At that time I crushed
the bots at a few levels, and actually thought I was unbeatable. Nay! Just kidding. I was to eager to play against real opponents, and analyzing my game was not on the top of my list.

Today, I feel that Poker Academy can give my answers to some of the hands I still feel
uncertain how to play. The hand simulator will tell me the percentage I will have in favor or
against me. Depending on how many players that are left in the pot, and how the board looks, or pre-flop. And this without costing me a penny. I have had some great "aha" experiences with the simulator, and I can say without a doubt, that the simulator has given me the answers to some of my questionable plays.

Another nice feature is of course all the different types of games, and opponents you get to chose to play against. There is settings for every player, and you can choose how the will act. From tight to very aggressive.

Heads up play. Good practice to play that uber aggressive heads up poker. You can even cheat and play with the cards face up I you want to be really naughty.

I doubt that playing face up cards will teach you anything, but you might get a good feeling of how many good starting hands there actually is in every hand. Not many as you probably know. The average 9 player table might have 3 "playable" hands in every deal. Unless you don't mind playing 72 off suite. If you don't, let me know at what poker site you play. Hehe

Overall, for $20 is a bargain for Poker Academy. The AI (artificial Intelligence) of the players
is great, and they will give you a challenge, as they learn by their mistakes. Now it's your time to learn by your mistakes, and without losing any real money.

Thoughts about online poker

I have played online poker for about 2 years, and that may sound little, but I have had
my cut of weird plays, agressive maniacs, tilts, uber tight, hate and love, sweat and tears,
joy and confidence, bad play and destruction. Once I punched my LCD screen just when "getting"
even with another player I thought played like a fish. I doubt he felt the blow, but it the human behaviour can get really idiotic when the adrenaline is pumping.

The few times I have played live, I feel total in controll of my emotions, and I hardly lose my
face, even if I am involved in a bad beat.

So why this Jekyll and Mr Hide? From what I know, my poker playing friends act out the same, while playing online. The possibilty you have, with out no one ever knowing, to yeall, barp, fart, curse, cry, scream and hammer on the keyboard is quit comforting. To be able to act out you feelings. I mean. I would never try to humilate another player playing live poker. Not that I am afraid, but because of my ethics. But if someone writes something provocative in the chat window, I hardly hesitate to punch back.

Hehe, well, I can just imagine all online poker players and their behaviour while sitting alone in the dark, playing a very important No Limit hand, winnng or losing. In the close future, webcam
s might become popular at the online poker site, but I doubt that. It sure would be fun though.
You could just drop your pants in a crucial hand, to shake the opponents of their concentration.
If you were a woman of course. As I am not a woman, I would probably get banned from the site instead.

WSOP ticket for $1 or $0?

In the bonus and freeroll wars among the poker sites, it surely is the players market.
Now you can chose to get a ticket to the WSOP 2006 in Las Vegas for $0 or just $1!
You will have to put some effort to it, by playing well, and having a nice streak of good
cards in the WSOP satellite. I tried it myself, and managed to quailify to the final event
at Party Poker and their WSOP Freeroll final, that takes place every saturday. Top 20
get's a ticket to the WSOP 2006.

NoblePoker has the most incredible freerolls right now. If you're lucky and good poker
player, you could take a shot at their $1 buy in WSOP satellites. Imagine sitting next
to Chris Ferguson, Phil Helmuth, Daniel Negreanu telling them that you only paid 1
dollar to play in the main event. Hehe, wouldn't that be cool.

Losing crucial hands in Poker Tournaments

While I am at it, some more moaning. Are you also losing those crucial hands in poker tournaments? If so, drop me a comment. I have a few hands I would like to discuss.
It's just so annoying to not know if I am playing these hands like some kind of dork, or If I have played them correct. What I do know for sure, Is that I need some kind of mentor, besides pokeroffice, and Sklansky, Brunson and Harrington books.

Crappy poker week, junk beats syndrom

This week and weekend, has been awful. Crappy hands, and when I do double up, it's only
to lose big in another upcomming hand. That's poker, Yeah particulary No Limit syndrom, I know, but it sucks the guts out of a poker fish. At least for now. Anyway, playing AA, AK, AKs at PartyPoker is always a thrill. You hardly ever win with the hand, that's for sure. I've been experimenting with trash hands, like 37s, 86o and even Doyle Brunson's notorious
10 2 suited. I know, this is just rubbish talk. The RNG at Party is working perfectly, and flawless, but moaning here, helps, works well, for poker confidence reasons.

Tripple Monitor, Tripple Play, Tripple Wins?

Wouldn't it be excellent to have a tripple screen while playing 3 different poker sites simultaneously.
I mean, if you online poker hot shot, you often tend to play more than one table at the time.
This is not recommended however, but I know alot of guys/girls who practice this.
Problem arises though, if you don't have more than 18 - 21 inch screen, and a resolution
at 1600 x 1200. You will fit four tables, but you won't be able to see your pokerstats, poker-spy
or poker calculator and tv shows at the same time, without flipping between windows.
This is getting a to be more serious problem for wealthy people.

What if you want to watch the WPT, CNN and Popeye at the same time?
Easy, just add 3 graphic cards and a tripple monitor to your monster workstation.

WSOP Satellite PartyPoker 2006 Freeroll

Partypoker freerolls.
Ah, I finally managed to get a few hours of play last night. My goal this year on the poker front is to
aim for something within the WSOP. I started with a live game satellite 2 weeks ago, in which I placed
9th. Top 3 gets to play for the WSOP ticket. Last night I mangled the PartyPoker WSOP Satellites, and
managed to qualify for a WSOP ticket tournament. 5 hours of play, and lots of marginal calls and raises.
Finished on an honorable 14th place out of 3500 contestants, thanks to a incredibly good start with
a stack close to 100k after only 2 hours of play.

So tonight at 23:00 "the first online WSOP sat for 2006 for me. Top 30 gets a WSOP ticket for different
events. No 1 is the H.O.R.S.E. 2-10 $10k NL WSOP Event, and 11-30 a $2k event. Nooooot bad!

I will keep myself posted here.

$500 Freerolls at PartyPoker, every half hour after 18:00

Seems that the generous poker site PartyPoker has taken the freeroll business serious. Every half hour after 18:00 each day, until dawn, it's freeroll madness.
That's great news. As some of us have families and mortages to pay every month, freerolls are more than welcome. Not risking our salaries, and the freerolls will encourage us to recommend
PartyPoker to other poker players. This is of course not the only criteria for recommending a poker site, no no, but It doesn't heart that a poker site is giving back some of it's profit, right to
the players. The sharks, the players that make a living out of playing poker, will also profit by
this, as players will return, and might just spend a possible tournament win on some cash game tables.

It's a win win situation!

My WSOP 2006 plan. Pack your bags, we are going to VEEEGAS!

Ok, how does a father of two (great kids), husband of one lovely wife, full time working, with mortage on the house, car and cat, get to play in the WSOP 2006 main event?

Well, this is my plan. Quite simple in fact. Ehumm, I belive the best plans are simple, and ..
aeh, ehumm, well, the cat caught my tounge there.

I am going to play the WSOP 2006!!, ... eeh, at least a Super sub-sub-sub qualifier at partypoker. The buy-in is a monsterous $2. This is how legends are born, the next Moneymaker, Raymer or well ...
me?

I have this dream. One day, when one of my wonderful and adorable sons taps on my shoulder, and says "dad are you winning tonight?". I turn around, with a mischievous smile on my face.
Son, tell mam to pack our bags, we are going to VEEEEEEEEEEEEGAS!!!

Winning Low Limit Holde'em by Lee Jones Review

Winning Low Limit Hold'em Review by Lee Jones.
To be perfectly honest, if it wasn't for this book, I wouldn't have played poker for long.
What Lee teaches about Low Limit poker, is so essential and vital, if you want to survive
or make profit on the low limit poker tables. The focus in this book is on fixed limit games,
I would say $0,25/$0,50 games and up to $3/$6 fixed limit hold'em cash games, even though
higher limits could apply. After reading this book I started out playing limit games on pacific poker, and I doubled my modest bankroll in a week. It's a must have for limit players I would say. Lee Jones recommends that you re-read it from time to time, and that sure is a good advice.

Deal Making at PartyPoker

Deal Making

PartyPoker.com, isconstantly improving and augmenting the service they offer to their players. Now, they're bringing you another great feature – a deal making facility.

Deal making allows players at the final table of a tournament to make a deal for all or part of the remaining prize pool. Deal making is part of the automated process that allows players to choose pre-determined deal structures and custom payouts. Note that during the game itself, a deal is not finalized unless all players have agreed to it.

Deal making is available for most real money, multi-table tournaments with a cash-only prize pool. It is not possible to use the deal making facility in a tournament that offers some of the winners the chance to take their payout in the form of an entry into another tournament.

To check whether a tournament features the deal making facility, go to the Poker Lobby and select a tournament to open the Tournament Lobby. If deal making is possible, it will say 'Final Table Deal Making Possible' in the top bulletin board message.

In the uncertain world of poker, where you can lose your stack on a bad beat, cutting a deal can make sure you still get a slice of the pot!

20 more minutes, then ..

Starts the first freeroll in this partypoker freeroll marathon. It's about 12:32 PM, and my eyes are heavy as led, but as I am true fighter, I never miss out on a oppurtunity to play a insane wild and crazy freeroll. The best part with freeroll is that noone is losing anything besides time, so you can easily chat with the other players, and make some small jokes on their behalf if the play bad. Including me. LoL

Later today, at 15:00 I will hopefully play a live No Limit tournament, with a $100 buy-in. I love when the buy-in is descently low. This make the players more relaxed, and it's a little bit easier to get their chips. So just because the buy-in is low, don't lower your guard. A poker game is poker game is poker game. Win, even if it's your old grandpa you are playing against. Obviously, I would give my grandpa he's house and money back if he lost. But not during the game. No way!

I like many other players, meaning those who lose more often then we win, usually has a heart that's to soft, atleast during the game. The best games I have played and won, are those when I have imagined that my opponents are evil brats from the "right side of the town", who's just spending "daddys" money. Nuke em Nuke em.

Well, if you ever play at partypoker, you don't have to worry when you see my nick.

Freeroll mania at PartyPoker right now.

I don't know how long they will have this freeroll mania, but at least every hour from 18:55 ET and 10 hours on. If you are a new registered PartyPoker player you will also have a shot at the $5.000 "new player only" No Limit tournament. When I signed up, I had two shots the $5k tournament within the same week. Bug? I don't know.

Furthermore, they have improved their poker client, so it's even more easy to navigate and filter out the "goodies". BTW, if you are from the UK, Denmark, Sweden, there is a $50.000 dollar freeroll, every month or so. I will update this post with the exact details after the semi-final between SWE - TCH. (Score right now 6 - 3). Yihaa!

So, grab a coke or coffee, put on your coolest poker t-shirt and let them shuffle up.
You do it right here if you like. And they have a brand new poker client!

Ladbrokes Poker Freeroll

Ah, just need to post some good poker news. This week I have finished 7th out of 4.537 players, and 24 out of 4,901 players.
It sure is a boost for me poker play confidence. After reading so many books on the subject, I though I was going
mad with all the poker tactics, strategies, bankroll and money management, pre-flop raise, odds, outs, table management
and so on. The list is endless when it comes to poker. Sure, it takes only five minutes to learn how to play Texas Holdem,
another 20 minutes to play Omaha or 7 card stud, but it takes a life time to master. Endless nights of playing hand after
hand, losing, winning, break even, tilt, discipline, wife, kids, concentration. Why do all poker players put up with all
the efforts? Is it worth the pain? I belive it is. Nothing is more thrilling, than to have a nice cup of coffee, and early saturday
or sunday morning, something to eat, and a Sit And Go tournament.

One thing though, if you get hooked, you must learn to master discipline. Not only the discipline the game demands, but
the discipline to quit when you are tired, angry, hungry or whatever. The discipline to not play every single day.

I know, my wife would laugh hysterical if she read this, but she has zip-zero interest in my poker and IT security blog, so I
guess I am home safe there.

Fellas, time to hit the bed.

Until next time.

Better to win a little, than to lose much. Won much? Check out this then: Just Aired From Discovery Channel

Oh, check out ladbrokespoker btw, here is there news page. Ladbrokes Poker News Page

My Own Tough Poker Room Reviews

During the years I have played unprofessional poker I have gathered some useful information, about low limit poker and freerolls. I often joke about myself as the blocks self-proclaimed-freeroll-king. (wife moans). However this has led to a great deal of experience and some cash, and least, but not less important, valueable information about poker sites.

I am about to correlate all the information about freeroll and low limit strategies on my mother blog. So check it out during the week. ETA is by next week. But you can check out an unfinished beta by now.

My Own Tough Poker Room Reviews, No B.S

The blog posts will give you valueable information, and my own private ratings about poker sites, their promos, bonus offers, tournaments, fishability, deposit and withdrawal experience, and everything else I can come up with. Stay Tuned.

Live from the $50 K freeroll at partypoker tonight.

The self proclaimed king of freerolls @ this longitude/latitude, is up to another swing for 50 k tonight. Right now, my stack is above average, after 30 minutes of play. But consider just getting awful starting hands, it's good. Only Swedes in this tournament, which mean I will have to play my very best to stand a little chance.

Right now, I have a 1510 deep stack and 7 minutes to the 50/100 blinds, so I will have to double up very soon, to be able to play without restrictions. Meaning that I would be able to variate my playing style, to not be an easy read.

I think many live poker players find it hard to play online poker, as there is of course less tells in online poker. You will have to study the other poker players betting patterns to get a little grip. And sometimes you can tell by the time they wait or don't wait, what kind of hand your they are is sitting on.

A common strategy if you have the nuts, is to wait until you only have a second or two to act, before you go all in. This way, some new players get the impression that you are trying to bluff them out of the pot, and it encourages them to call. Another popular name is calling stations.

Keep getting cold hands, and with a tight table, I should bluff more. My stack is back at 1110 and the blinds are 50/100 now. Not a great situation.

My gut feeling says this is not going to be my best tournament. I am having a severe long streak of bad cards at partypoker. I miss every flop, and keep getting outdrawn. I play the same game at all the other sites, and the RNG (Random Number Generator)at ladbrokes is just great, compared to partypokers.

All in with AKs in spades. Let's see. One caller, aaaaaaaah he has AA. ShaIze!. But the luck was on my side this hand. The flop came Q J 4, turn was a blank, but the river was a 10, and gave me a straight.

Chipstack right now. 2820. Average is 2767,65. And 1225 players left of the 3.350 starters.

At this point I will have to sit and wait for pocket pairs or big cards, as the hands are almost always going to an all in situation at this stage of the tournament.

Down to 2.595 after bleeding blinds for some time now. I will need some miracle cards soon to stay in the tournament. Blinds are 75/150 at this point. Average stack is up to 4.090. I keep getting mediocre starting hands, and when the table is full of good and experienced players, you wiill have to play very agressivly pre-flop to stay alive.

Lot's of all in's right now. And AA keeps losing!

The End? Picked up AKo now! All in, but no callers.

Stack down to 2.445 after folding K10o, QJo pre-flop. Largest stack around 21.400

I need to pull a few bluffs, but bluffs are all about your position, and I keep getting 72o on the button.

No matter what I try to think, my gut feeling says that I'm out soon. Tamdededamdamdam. Trying to think optimistic.

After a few good hands I was up to 4.800 and not to far from average stack. Then I played A7o, which I normally don't but as so many folded befor me I took a shot at it. The flop was 6 A 6, so I had a 2 pair with a 7 kicker. I bet the pot and was called by the other guy in a flash. It didn't wake any alarm bells, so I bet another thousand, and he called. The river was a 7, so I thought I was in the lead with my stronger 2 pair. But he held A6o, and won the pot with his full house. My stack down to 1.400.

Picked up another trash hand K7s, a hand I normally throw away without hesitation. But there are circumstances when I play this hand. This was one of them. 3 limpers and the big blind was in the pot, so I raised all in to get one on one action. It worked and the other player showed up pocket deuces. But I missed all five community cards, so I was bumped out of the tournament.

Results: 3 hours of play and not a single penny to my bankroll.

How to play in freerolls with thousands of loose players

Daily Poker Blog Thoughts

Ok, at 9.00 EST I am up for another swing at the $7.500 prize pool. A tournament with more than 3.000 players, so one will have to have some luck to get into the money. As usual I will have to sit nice and tight and wait for good starting hands, and bet hard pre-flop. The strategy for playing a tournament like this, is not easy. Many players are very very loose, and plays any suited King or Ace, so you are often up against one or two players holding these hands before the flop. Not to seldom one of them hit their ace, and can pick up the pot, right before your crying eyes.

But have faith! This can work in your favour, if you are willing to gamble a little.

Here is a few of my tactics that you can evaluate.

Hundred Million Dollar Freeroll

Remember, these tips and strategies are my own, and consider them as they are from an honest playing poker fan, and not a professional poker player. (Not to many pros that plays freerolls anyway. But I have found my strategies in freerolls to work quite well, so my information might be worth something.

Feel free to comment. (Yes you, my only reader in this cyberworld)

1 ) Depending on the structure of the blinds, you have a couple of options. In a No Limit tournament, you should see as many flops as you can in the beginning, if you can see them cheap. In a turbo freeroll, I would wait for a midde pair or something to call an early-in-the-tournament multiple all in situation, which is very likely to occur.

2 ) Try to "debug" the other player starting hand requirements. Loose players will likely play any Ace or King, suited or not. If that's the case, tag them (usually a note over their handle in the poker client) and wait for the right moment to grab their stack. This is vital information if you get in a all in situation, with two of the players you know go for these kind of hands.

If you hold pocket pair, JJ, QQ, KK or even 10s, you are in a good position to grab a nice pot. I usually want to see the flop, but these guys are sometimes so hot, that they put their hole stack in, for a coin flip, without the slightest hesitation. So if you have a 3-way multipot situation, you can almost bet that the "ace" tagged players are holding AK, AQ, AJ or even A10 suited or not. They are gambling and trying to hit an ace, king, queen or jack. You hold two key cards, and they will almost always have to hit the ace to take the pot, and there is only two aces left in the deck.

3 ) Slowplay. Example No 1:

Slowplaying trips under the freeroll circumstances is not advisable early in a freeroll tournament. You are just risking to get outdrawn. If I hit trips on the flop, I usually go all in within a second. This will "trigger" the other players to belive that I am bluffing. So I almost always get called by 1 or 2 players holding, guess what? Correct weak Aces with terrible kickers.

Part 2 will be posted tomorrow!

New Poker Strategy for Tonight

1 hour left until the usual 20:15 NL tournament at ladbrokes. Yesterday I had a huge stack by the end of the first hour, after playing my usual very tight agressive style.

I made a couple of trips with 3-4 callers and could play my kind of game for a while, which is a luxury in these no limit games at laddies..

At the beginning of the second hour, I was transfered to another table, and did a call I regret. This is a hand I usually play bad, I just get blind by it's beauty and chase it all the way down to the abyss. I held 109o, the 10 was 10 of hearts, and the flop came. Jh Qh 9h. A wonderful straight flush draw. I had 9 outs to pick up a flush, and 2 of the outs would make me this lovely straight flush hand. Either the King of hearts or the 8 of hearts. I held my breath that the 3 remainers in this pot, would go easy after 3 flush flop. But that turned out the be just a fantasy, as one player raised with a pot size bet. About 25% of my stack. I had a good feeling that he was trying to pick up the pot with this scare bet, so I called, drewling for the straight flush.

As usual, this is a real fish play. The only play that would be sanctioned by a good player is to re-raise here, so that I could put pressure on the one remaing player in the pot. But naeh! I was spellbound by the cards, living in a fantasy again. Turn came 10 of diamonds. The other player betted pot size again, so I re-raised all in.

The river was blank and he picked up the 20 k pot.

Just a fishy play by me, blinded by the chance of picking up the nuts.
So tonight, I am playing, to win!! :-)

Freerolls, Nightmare or Paradise?

Don't forget to check out the freeroll section. Noble Poker has a $100.000.000 USD freeroll. One hundred million dollars. How that can be possible, beats me, they must make a fortune, if they can give that amount away. The biggest in Universe, I bet. I have never heard of such a freeroll before.

I do consider myself as a freeroll guru or expert, as I have played so many. Or at least a veteran, so consider reading about my experiences in these postings, and save yourself some bitter moments. I can almost guarantee that you will have an advantage after reading and digesting my advises.

There is a huge list of poker sites offering freerolls, and I would suggest any "new" players to try freerolls before "real" tournaments. However, you should consider the fact that freerolls can be extremely loose agressive, and many players aren't really concentrating, so you might get stunned by the calls you see.

One good advise is to wait until you hit a big pair. QQ, KK, or AA. JJ or 1010 if there is more than 3 callers. You want to make sure that the big cards outs are narrowed down. Let's say that there is 4 caller to a signficant raise, like 4-8 times the big blind. If you belive two of the calling players are Ace X lovers, and the raiser, could raise that much with any pair, you could invest some capital and call to see the flop.

End of part I "Freerolls, Nightmare or Paradise"

Ace King suited against Ace Jack suited

Well, well, time to open up the valve and let some steam out again. Played a descent tournament on Ladbrokes yesterday. Played my usual game as it works well in tournaments. Had about 2,5 x average stack = 10 K in chips, after slowplaying to trips, when I picked up Ace of clubs and King of Clubs. The blinds were up to 100/200 and the other players at the table were shortstacked > 2 K in chips, beside a new player who just arrived from another table.

I was first to act pre-flop, so I fired an all-in to make the shortstacks belive I bluffed. I didn't want more than one to call, and the shorstacks had played pretty tight, so I figured I had it covered. Small blind and Big blind and called, and went all in pre-flop, but my biggest suprise was that the new player with a stack of 800 chips less than mine, wanted a coin flip.

My first thougth was that he held a medium pair, like 77-10 or jacks. That's the only cards I possibly would have called with myself. So I was really suprised that I pre-flop had a 68.90% advantage with my AKs, against his AJs!!

The flop came, and I begged for no jacks. My prayers were answered on the flop (King of spades, 8 of diamonds and Q of clubs), and by hitting the King, my lead went up to 82,5% chance of winning the pot.

The other stack had now a straight draw, and 4 outs to nuke my pair of Kings. He needed a ten. The turn card was a blanck, and the all might river, ... a ten. Lady fortuna was on the other side in this cruical pot, so I just lost it and went all in the next hand with my 800 chip light stack.

This was the third bad beat in a tourney in 5 days. And as I have only played 3 tourneys the last 5 days, my poker luck is down to about -300%. LoL

Fish Poker presents low limit strategies, by a huge tasty Salmon

Bluffing is a often = Your relative position to the buttom. This is absolutely true in many situations.

However, in low limit games, where I usually play, you will often see people in early positions do the bluff raise, right after the flop. I can't say how common this is, but I see it all the time at the $0,25/0,50 and $0,50/1,0 no limit cash games, and "low limit" or freeroll tournaments. This would not work very well in Fixed Limit, as you usually have alot of callers after the flop. For a semi bluff you could bet out on a nut flush draw, even if you have jack after the flop, even in FL, but remember even if you have 9 outs to catch that flush, you will "only" get it about 35% of the time, and you might be outdrawn by someone with a full house draw. This is the tough world a low limit games, people calling with 1 outs to the bitter end.

Another thing you will see more often on low limit tables, is people trying to catch up lost money.
Or more or less on TILT. This is more common on low limit tables for obvious reasons. People at higher stake tables has learned to control their emotions much better, and this Is extremely cruical for your bankroll, and money management. Imagine that you have $100 - $150 dollars (including bonus)
to play with. If you loose big, lets say $40 - $50 dollars in a day, that equals about 30% of your total bankroll. If a company lost 30% of its capital, it would almost go under. So try and think about money in percents instead of dollars. I read somewhere that you should risk more than 3-5% of you bankroll a day. If you loose that, wait until next day to play. It will be worth it, I know, because I have been there.

Flop a Straight, and lose = anger

Ok, this happened in a tournament I played today at ladbrokes. (Ladbrokes is great poker site though)

GetRichQuik posted the small blind - $300.00

** Dealing card to tippin_poker: 10 of Hearts, 9 of Hearts
Nice, suited connectors!

kido4 folded

** Dealing the flop: Jack of Spades, King of Spades, Queen of Diamonds

At this point I have a 65,56% chance to win the pot
The King Queen hand has a 17,17% chance to win, and AA has
16,61%.

cashcrazy shows: King of Hearts, Queen of Spades
carsten0034 shows: Ace of Clubs, Ace of Spades

** Dealing the turn: 10 of Clubs
Here when all the remaining players are all in, the turn
card, nukes my King high straight. I was really sure I would take this
pot, but lady luck was not on my side today, as usual.

** Dealing the river: 4 of Clubs

carsten0034 wins $17760.00 from the main pot
carsten0034 wins $29928.36 from side pot 1

End of game 402960317

If I had won, I would have been 2nd to the chipleader.
Why is it that I always lose crucial hands?
Makes me wanna vomit!

Conclusion, should I have slowplayed my straight? Don't think so. My
goal was to win a big pot, not losing 10% of my stack by seeing a 10 of
clubs on the turn.
I was a favourite to win the hand, but this is poker in a nutshell.
That why I love the game of poker.
:-), bah, well, I got more time to pester the world with my bad beat rants. LOL

Stake a poker fish like me, and take him/her out of misery for one day

Ok, fish = losers in poker like me, but, what if a high roller would stake out a player, with tips and tricks, and invest in fish game. They could make a deal, that if the fish wins any money, they will split it, fifty fifty. So make a fish happy for just one day, and stake him to a one day glory in the hall of fish that wins.

100 bucks extra.

Well I am off to bed, reading as usual, so sleep tight and dream about magic flops and lucky rivers.

Best of luck

ALX

100 bucks extra.

AA versus 99

Well, well, time for a RANT about loose agressive players again. I should have known by now that AA is not guarantee to pick up a huge pot. Played a tournament at ladbrokes tonight, feeling good, playing solid and tight. Late in the tournament I had about average stack, picked up 45s in spades, folded the hand even though I could have limped like the fish I am. The pot grew huge as two players were competing with Kings and weak kickers. The board contained three fives. Ok, I missed a four of kind, because I mucked. Next hand... Picked up A3s, and another limp situation was possible. But naeh!, flop came 4h 4s 5s, check check, turn card 8 spades. A nice flush with 2 players in the pot. Bah!

100 bucks extra.

3 minutes later, after a paused game, I was on the button, and picked up American Airlines. As only 2 players had entered the pot I choose to slowplay with a minimum raise. The player next to me went all in, so did the player to my left. I was biting my lip as I knew I would tripple my stack. The flop whipped my ass in an instant. There it was, a 9 and two blanks. The guy on my left kicked me out of the tournament with his pocket 9s. Bah! Bah! Bah!

100 bucks extra.

Are we alone in the universe playing NL poker?

Have you ever thought about aliens playing Texas Holdem 30/60 No Limit? Well, this is the first time it the idea of little green men playing poker. I usually filter out these odd thoughts and modify them before they land on any webpage or document, to spare my family and friends from the humiliation.

Well, let's say, in 2040, when our kids are grown up men/women, and hopefully experienced Earth Orbitonauts, an alien spaceship lands on the surface of our planet, somewhere close to Las Vegas.
Problems would arise, as the aliens would be out of cash, and not creditable by any financial institute or bank. However, on our earth we have freerolls!!

So wouldn't it be appropriate to invite our "cousins" to a NL freeroll, as a gestgure of good faith, and that we are in peace.

Hehe, ok, it got a bit out of hand as usual. But the sight of aliens and human aliens playing a poker tournament would be hilarious. Just imagine all the poker tells! ROFLMAO

Poker bonus "wars"

Seems like there is an ongoing "war" to recruite new poker players, or to keep existing players coming back to the poker sites. This gains us poker players of course, as we'll get more value for our deposit money, more generous loyality programs and bonuses. I'll setup a small list here later today, with info about good bonuses, that don't require more than 20 times the bonus in raked hands, before cash out/withdrawal. For now, check out Party Poker and Bet24.com.

Another QQ bites the dust, a poker nightmare

| December 30, 2005

Played a $50.000 tournament poker(freeroll) today, just for fun, 2768 players, so I was pretty sure it was going to be hard to even get into the money. ITM. Well, well, I held QQ and was in on the cut off, when a player in middle position raised about pot. I called, and the flop was blank blank blank rainbow, so I thought I'd slow play my queens. I was pretty sure he held JJ, or even 1010 when he betted about pot again. Betting pot is to give your opponent the lowest possible odds to call.

The turn was also a blank, so I called an allin from him, knowing I would take the pot. But BAH!!! In Texas holdem, there sure is 5 community cards, and of course, a Jack fell on the river and gave the fella a three of a kind in jacks.

So remember, trust your gut feeling when to slowplay a good hand, and trust your instincts, what else can you trust? :-)

Bad streak week

Horrible bad streak week struck me, as always after winning a small amount of cash. Played at Party Poker and Bet24, mostly SnG and regular cash games.
I know, everyone is fed up hearing about bad beats, but I'm not, and usually it makes me feel better to rant about them. LoL

Anyway, as promised, I'll post a link to a couple of hundred plays, so you can check em out if you like. Replay your critical hands with applications like Poker Tracker for visual analyzes.

A good idea when you've had a bunch of bad beats against you, is to do something else for a while. Just to get a perspective and shake of those bad feelings. Nothing is more in the way for profitable play than your mood, distractions and tilt. I know from first hand experience.

If you're really p-d off, try and let the anger out on a fast walk around the park, or shout out as loud as you can while sitting in your car. Don't drive while doing that!!

My point is, you really don't have to very unlucky to lose money. Everyone is going to have the same share of good and bad cards thruout a period of time.

That's all for now,

Back to licking my wounds,

ALX

Easy come, easy go

I spent a few hours last night playing a 25NL at party. I was playing my regular tight agressive game, and did pick up a few really good hands. 2 Full houses in 3 hands, against 2 nut flush hands.
The first full house, I managed to get on the river card, and I realized quick that my opponent had picked a flush in spades. However, I wasn't sure he would bet to hard, as he must have known that I knew about his hand, and he probably thought I would fold in a blick of an eye.

At this point I tried to convince him that I had hit the flush too. So I betted out some bait money, as pretendening I had nothing, when I knew he was thinkig I was trying to bluff him with a lower flush or probe betting with a 3 of kind. Hehe, reverse psychology. As suspected he went all in, and I waited at least 2 seconds to call. As he was the agressor in this hand, with 2 aces and and 4 on the board, I didn't feel sorry about small-bet-baiting him. He didn't grunt or swear in the chat, and that's usually the case when the looser of the hand goes all-in first.

A few hands later I lost a major slice of my cake to a 3 of kind, against my low 2 pairs. So I was back to scratch for the evening. So my little profit for the evening was changing hands for the 3rd time this night.

Usually, 2 pairs is where I've picked up some huge pots in my short poker "carrier". A hand I wouldn't recommend anyone to play to hard with cards to come, but on a lowlimit table, very profitable when someone pairs a monkey or aces with the board. :-)

Pokersite offering $100

A fella pokermate of mine gave me a tip about a betting site that offers new players $30 after
playing 100 raked hands. Another $70 after playing a total of 500 raked hands.

100 raked hands is a walk in the park, even on 0,25$/0.50$ tables. Playing tight as a clam and on a
couple of FL tables for a couple of hours and another $70 to the bankroll.

If anyone has played here before, please let me know what you think about the players. Fish scale, client, ease of deposit, cashouts, support etc. Just drop me a comment here.

If you want to become an experienced online tournament player and eventually a good one, you should try out Sit and Goes. Sit and Goes are usually a 10 player table where 1-3 gets the cash. SnG's usually ends in an hour or so, depending on how agressive the table is.

Poker hand statistics

I'm about to post a large amount of poker hands i've played in the past. But before I do, I need to sanities them from garbage, so I'm currently putting up a cluster (joke), just a couple of sed/awk and perl script to make them usuable to post here. This could be a good reference for you, on how to NOT play cash games, and how to play Sit and Goes NL. You could easily import these hands to pokeroffice for example, and do your own analysis. As the hand histories can grow big in text, I'll publish a link to a directory with all the files I've collected thru time.

So hold on, or don't, just don't let go, you really need to hold on.

Casino Trip?

I was wondering how to convince my wife, that I could go to the casino this christmas holiday. I've been waiting for a holiday, so I can be in harmony before I make any bets. Being relaxed and feeling fresh is really A and O in poker, black jack or even roulette for that matter.

Well, well, if I bring my credit cards, that might hold me back from "tilting". Cash just burns in my pockets, but Cash is King, so...

Diet coke

BTW, how dangerous is aspartam, which is in almost every kind of non sugar sodas. Any google tips on where I can find a recent study Is gratefully accepted.

Poker books I really recommend

Ok, I must admit, I'm a huge sucker for poker literature. I belive I have the largest collection of pokerbooks in my part of the city, or at least among the top 10. Unfortunately that doesn't make me a very profitable player. Now why is that? Well, it's not because I play bad. To be perfectly honest, I think I have a huge gap in my play, because of my lack of discipline in poker. I really like to challenge the table with odd starting hands, and runner runner hands showdowns. So when I pick up the pott, It's usually big. However, this kind of play is going down the toilet sooner or later, it's going to cost me my bankroll, with a 100% probability.

So If I for instance play well for a couple of hours, not playing more than a few garbish hands, I tend to make a little profit. PROFIT!!, so why don't I stop at the point when I am about to loose my discpline/patience/focus/concentration? I haven't figured that one out yet, I bet (all-in) that I'm not alone doing this fundamental mistake.

Anyway, I think my strongest poker skills, lay within NL tournament play. (Odd as it really takes paticence. LoL) Paradoxes, paradoxes. The skills I have gained is mostly thanks to Dan "ActionDan" Harringtons 2 great NL Tournaments books.

Yet another 127.0.0.1 joke.

Incredible flops # 1

The first one out is a flop i had on a pacific 0,5/1$ table about a year ago. Nothing special, besides my starting hands. LoL, I guess i was just bored and played that J3o. But it paid of this time. Sometimes its wise to play bad starting hands, and then show them at showdown. Makes your opponents read on you more difficult.

Nagging about Discipline

Discipline

I'd say, that when you come to a point in your poker "carrier", when you've read every book worth mention about poker, and still loose, you're a sucker. But hey! That doesn't mean you're a quitter. Most of the games, no matter what, takes patience. If you play your game in every single hand, with discipline, you migth become a beautiful white shark someday. I must admit that I have a very roller-coast-ish trend in my play.
If I just could learn to master the art of DISCIPLINE, more than one day, I would earn a little fortune.
My guess is that once you've played a 100k hands or more online, you know pretty much what your weaknesses are, and how to avoid them, but the lack of DISCIPLINE destroys the little profit you make.

Hmm, make note. "Mental training in poker DISCIPLINE" once a day.
How hard can it be. well, I have thought about it for a long time now, and my conclusion is that it's equal to quit smoking in some ways. So if you can quit smoking, you could master discipline, and vice versa. Or? :-)

BTW, if you can read swedish, check out http://pokerforum.nu. A great source for poker hands/strategy and lots more.

Historical poker hands # 1

Historical poker hands from the globe of poker. No particular order or ranks, just random from my dusty brain.

First one out is from Texas Holdem NL WSOP 2005. I listened to the first ever web radio broadcast from the final table actually. Host were Phil Helmuth, Daniel Negreanu and Jennifer Harman, as far as I can recall.
It didn't take long until Mike "The Mouth" Matusow unfortunately ran into to Scott Lazar's pocket rockets (AA).

4.57PM: In the second hand, Mike Matusow, with around $7.4 million in front of him, finds himself covering a $3 million all-in from Scott Lazar. Matusow discovers that his Kings have walked head-on into pocket Aces. Then a miracle King hits the flop, and Mike is dancing. But running hearts give Lazar a flush on the river – a devastating blow for The Mouth.

As far as I remember Mike Matusow didn't stop playing very aggressive, but this blow to his stack must have punched a hole to his confidence in winning the final.

About time

to get to work. Analog watch showing 3 minutes to 9, and the rush hours on the subway are over for this morning. Really nice that i can schedule my work +-1 - 2 hours a day. It really makes my mornings less stressfull, and really enjoyable instead.
